Think about it: if you had to keep only one, which appliance is your must have? Which are merely eye-candy?

I can't live without my Sunbeam - HOT SHOT. All it does is boil water in 35 seconds nothing else and I've had it for 20 years and will have to go on eBAY to find a replacement when it goes !

A good oven / cooking range is a must followed by a refrigerator / freezer.

Pretty much just the oven/stove and refrigerator.
Of course I love my washer and dryer, too.
We have a Maytag washer that we bought in 1989 right after my first son was born. Washing away as I type!

I'll need to give it some thought. Microwave or Dishwasher seem tied.
I love the Lady who still has a Maytag washer going since 1989.
(Me thinks she has a handly Husband).

He IS a little bit handy, but not THAT handy.
We have probably spent about $600 in repairs over that time frame. It is still humming along by the way!
It has laid to rest 6 dryers...

I'm impressed Liz. My wife had a Whirlpool front loader that we bought in 1979, took it to Spain and back and the pump finally quit in 2001. It had concrete counter-weights since the tub was horizontal and we loved that machine and would have bought the same one again but could not find one of the same quality. We settled for a the Maytag "Neptune" series washer and dryer.
Pleasure talking to you - John from Maryland

Yep, Happy Easter!
(I bought nothing Made in China for my children's holiday...all locally-made candy from locally-owned stores)

Now that makes you a Great American. As you probably know,
American Industry has been and is being ravaged by the respective "Governments" of countries (China, India, etc) paying 30 cent an hour wages (Free Global Market ? I think not).
We lost the television industry years ago by the Japanese "Government" subsidizing their TV exports which our domestic "Private" manufactures could therefore not meet (Free Global Market ? I think not).
Lamentably, the majority of American Consumers to this very day value lowest cost over Country Of Origin Liz.
You must have very special Parents to have instilled such fine values in you Liz.
Best John / sends

Thanks, John!
My maternal Grandmother and my Father, I would say, are responsible, as well as good friend Bill...we're all in this together and we have to take care of our neighbors, the closest ones first.
Many times the cost is the same (for comparable quality or better), and often what you don't get in quantity is likely not a necessary thing in the first place!
I am always working to be better in my spending habits, to hopefully conserve SOME of our local economy and domestic manufactured products, to keep our money closer to home.
