It was reported this week that overuse of antibiotics could contribute to diminished ability to fight infections. Are antibiotics prescribed excessively? Do patients want them even when it isn't advisable?

I'm afraid that answer is yes. Monitored fever can be helpful in "cooking" or killing bacteria in patients.
But the Pharmaceutical Industry carriers allot of weight and billions of dollars are at stake.
Not many yet a few Doctors are given incentives to push sample drugs to boost follow-on sales.

I think the answer is yes too. We as a society have grown way to dependent on antibiotics.

Does anyone know where I can get some stat's on how prevelant these new strains of bacrerial infections are ?

I heard a week ago that there is a new imported desease being brought by poor customs screening. This parasight the attacks the human brain and causes paralasys leading to death.

What would you have us do ? Accept having a fever and just drink chicken soup ?

If we stop allowing the Pharmasutical companies to make the big profits then the big break-throughs will dry-up.
